Dinesh Narain Verma

Meet Dinesh Narain Verma: The Author Who Began His Writing Career After a Distinguished Public Service Career.

For many people, retirement marks the end of a long working life. For Dinesh Narain Verma, it marked the beginning of something new. After spending almost four decades in public service, followed by work in law, he chose to put his years of experience into writing. His books reflect the people he met, the situations he witnessed, and the questions about human nature that stayed with him throughout his career.

Years Spent Understanding People and Society

Born and educated in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Verma earned a master’s degree in English before studying law. He started his career as an advocate, but in 1966 he joined the Indian Information Service. During his long association with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he worked in several important positions before retiring as Director of the Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity.

His work also took him to the classroom as a visiting faculty member at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication. These roles gave him the chance to interact with people from many walks of life. Over the years, he developed a deep interest in understanding how people think, make decisions, and respond to different situations.

Why Retirement Led Him to Writing

After retiring from government service, Verma returned to legal practice and worked as an adviser with an intellectual property rights firm. Even so, he felt there were many ideas he still wanted to share. Writing became the way to do that.

His first book, My Times My Tales, brought together short stories inspired by human behaviour and everyday life. Readers appreciated its simple storytelling and familiar characters, leading to a second edition and a Hindi version titled Mere Samey Ki Meri Kahaniyan. The response encouraged him to continue writing and take on larger ideas.

The Novel That Asked Why People Hurt Each Other

Rather than writing the same kind of book again, Verma chose a different path with A Fascinating Trip to Humans Manufacturing Site. The novel mixes fantasy, philosophy, and science fiction to examine a question that had stayed with him for years: Why do people often become the source of pain for other people?

The story follows a man whose dream takes him to a place where humans are created. Through this unusual setting, Verma shares his thoughts about human behaviour, using imagination to discuss serious ideas in an engaging way.

The book received the Golden Book Award 2025 and the Web-Series Worthy Story Teller Award 2025 from WRITER TODAY. It was also recognised by DELHIWIRE.com among the Top 50 Most Influential Authors of 2024. Its audiobook is available on Kobo Books and Libro.fm.

Sharing Ideas Through Different Kinds of Books

Dinesh Narain Verma

Verma has continued to write on a wide range of themes. His book The Blessed Curse takes young readers back to the years around India’s Independence through stories that help them understand how earlier generations lived.

His latest work, Understanding Bhagavad Gita: The Recipe for a Better Life, reflects his wish to make the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita easy for common readers. Written in clear language, the book focuses on values such as self-control, kindness, humility, and balanced thinking. Its aim is to help readers bring these ideas into daily life.

When One Career Gave Birth to Another

Although Dinesh Narain Verma began writing after a successful public service career, his books are closely linked to the experiences that came before them. The people he met, the situations he observed, and the lessons he gathered over many years became the foundation of his work as an author.

From short stories and philosophical fiction to historical writing and spiritual thought, his books share a common purpose: encouraging readers to think more deeply about human behaviour, values, and the choices that shape life. His career may have started in public service, but writing has given him another meaningful way to share what he has learned over a lifetime.
